James Runcie, British writer, director, television producer, and playwright, was born in 1959 in Cambridge to Robert Runcie, Archbishop of Canterbury from 1980 to 1991, and classical pianist Rosalind Runcie. A director and producer for BBC, ITV, and Channel 4, he has received numerous BAFTA and Royal Television Society Award nominations. The author of four novels, he is best known for his “Grantchester Mysteries” series, which was adapted into a 2014 TV series starring actor James
Norton as Reverend Sidney Chambers, a character inspired by the writer’s father. The series also aired in Italy on Giallo TV.
