This concert features an intriguing programme of baroque and classical works performed by experts in their field. Angela Hewitt begins with selected keyboard sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti and Haydn’s last great piano sonata performed on her own Fazioli concert grand piano. After the interval, Italian soprano Arianna Vendittelli sings Handel’s dramatic cantata “Lucrezia”, written during his stay in Venice in 1706-1709. The drama of this work recounting the rape and suicide of Lucrezia will be accentuated by the charismatic Maxim Emelyanychevat on the harpsichord. With members of Il Pomo d’Oro baroque ensemble, the concert will end with CPE Bach’s charming concerto for harpsichord and fortepiano, in which Angela will perform on her own fortepiano, a copy of a 1795 Walter made by local artisan Urbano Petroselli.
